About:
Recorded over three days during March of 1984 at Wilebski's Bar in Minnesota, the 2002 DVD Blues Collection: Live at Wilebski's features performances from a variety of renowned performers, including John Lee Hooker, Dr. John, and Lady Bianca, among others. But its title is a tad misleading, as not all of the performers are blues artists -- as evidenced by a pair of obscure outfits: the funk-based Willie & the Bees and the blues-rock of the Minnesota Barking Ducks. Due to time restrictions, most of the artists get only one song each on the set, as standouts include Hooker's classic "Boom Boom," Lady Bianca's soulful reading of "Imagination," Baby Doo Caston's "Low Down Dog," and Dr. John's "You Lied Too Much." Also included with the DVD are several bonus features, including individual artist biographies, the all-time blues Top 50, the story of the blues, and a blues trivia quiz, among others. Blues Collection: Live at Wilebski's is certainly not a true blues set, but still contains some fine performances.

About:
Chick has a long history of reinvention — not least of which was the stunning high-velocity jazz-rock of Return to Forever. In 1986, after a long period of high-profile, mostly acoustic collaborations, Chick assembled the Elektric Band, a plugged-in unit so tight and flawless that it reinvigorated jazz for a new generation. Their first album, The Chick Corea Elektric Band, is a stunner: from the opening flourish of “City Gate,” Chick was clearly announcing a new direction. The lineup of young masters — Scott Henderson and Carlos Rios on guitar, bassist John Patitucci and drummer Dave Weckl — simply inhabit Chick’s new compositions, creating instant classics out of tunes like “Got A Match?” and “Elektric City.”

About:
Recorded live at the St. Anthony Main Street Festival on July 24, 1986, the Ernie Watts Quartet's contribution to the Some Call It Jazz series from Quantum Leap/MVD contains 60 minutes of great music and little in the way of liner notes and additional information. Some of the better camera work from the assorted programs taped by producer/director Gregg Kubera is found on this 58-and-a-half-minute DVD. It's a very enjoyable hour of Watts' "analog saxophone" with the usual people milling about during the street festival. Perhaps it was because of Watts' status as a Grammy winner that the camera crew decided to keep this concert in focus -- or maybe they had so much practice taping the various events with Randy Sabien and Brian Torff & Manfredo Fest that this time they got it right. The Don Rice audio is once again superb, with the piano, bass, and drums mixed to perfection. All the releases in this series from MVD with these important artists are lo-fi delights, and this is one of the best -- 60 minutes of Ernie Watts' sax wailing with superb accompaniment is a nice video find.

About:
"Featuring rare & exclusive SUN RA footage, photos & audio" A film by PHILL NIBLOCK featuring SUN RA & HIS SOLAR ARKESTRA. Composer, photographer and filmmaker Phill Niblock's classic of experimental underground filmmaking with a sensational soundtrack.
Sun Ra was no ordinary musician. His "free" approach to jazz was more Thelonious Monk or Ornette Coleman than Glenn Miller or Benny Goodman. His sartorial style was more George Clinton than Miles Davis. Just as Space is the Place, his best known cinematic effort, was no ordinary feature film, Magic Sun is no ordinary performance film. Phill Niblock's 16-minute vision of the late keyboard player/bandleader and 12-piece Arkestra, including John Gilmore and Marshall Allen, is painted in expressionistic shades of black and white--heavy on the black. The pieces are "Celestial Fantasy," "Shadow World," and "Strange Strings." The effect is strange, otherworldly, and disorienting. Magic Sun is accompanied by a 15-minute collection of stills and recitations from the same New York-based period (1963-1967). For the uninitiated, it may not be the best place start, but for the faithful, this previously obscure document is sure to be of great interest.

The Non-Stop Luna Park Marathon | Sydney 12th January 1979
Tiny Tim’s live show at Luna Park is an outstanding performance from the weirdly wonderful music legend Tiny Tim, filmed by pop-artist Martin Sharp. The film titled ‘Tiny Tim’s Non-Stop Luna Park Marathon’ is now available to rent or purchase from Planet Blue Pictures! The legendary Tiny Tim sang for two hours and seventeen minutes nonstop on a beautiful summer's night, in the Floating Palais at Luna Park on Sydney harbor 12th January 1979. This spectacular was produced by legendary Australian artist Martin Sharp.
Tiny Tim is a mastermind of show business and a master of popular songs. He was an iconic American singer highly acclaimed for his bizarre renditions of contemporary songs in the 1960s, and known for his long hair and white make-up. He was generally considered a one-hit wonder for his song Tiptoe through the Tulips. Tiny believed that the world wasn’t ready to see him as any more than a freak. This is where Martin Sharp played an important role for shaping Tiny Tim into the iconic legend he is today, and shaping the iconic Luna Park performance. Tim says, “I know Mr. Sharp believes in me so much – and I praise the Lord for that – and maybe he’s made a cult movie which at the very least will survive as a museum piece. But Mr. Sharp, I think, is interested more than ever in my thoughts on this world and its cataclysmic times, on my fundamentalist spiritual attitudes.”
